LB Visit - 5th Jan 2008 (Teochew)

Erm....it’s been a short while since i blog and I can remember very clearly that the last time i blog was for my Philosophy Exposure module. During the blogging sessions for the Philosophy Exposure module, I can see lots and lots of blogging posts that other students made and seeing so much makes me ended up in fear and anxiety, with always thinking if I am blogging the right thing and whether I am blogging enough. At last, the module ended successfully…phew… but….this will not deter me from blogging again and here I am…..starting my blogging session with “Lb on the blog”. Yipee!!!

It was our usual Teochew visit on the 5th Jan 08 and through the visit, our group did learn a lot of things from the elderly.

First lesson: During the visit to Uncle Wong and Uncle Liu who live together, we mentioned to them that we will be having our CSC Day on the 19th Jan 2008 and we would like them to participate in the event and confirm with us their attendance. They are interested in the event but Uncle Liu mentioned that he has “inside news” that the “Fo Jiao Ju Si Lin” (if my research is correct, correct me if I am wrong) located at Kim Yam Road might be having the annual Chinese New Year event and it will be giving out S$150 to the invited elderly. S$150 might be a small amount to us but to the elderly, it is really a big amount in which they need for their daily lives. Thus Uncle Liu said that he might be attending the “Fo Jiao Ju Si Lin” event and gives a miss to our CSC day but it is alright as we understand the situation Uncle Liu and the other elderly are in. Anyway, the answer given by Uncle Liu is not final yet and there might be a miracle where we will see Uncle Liu and Uncle Wong at our CSC Day. (‘’,)

Second lesson: The last visit of the day is to visit Uncle Yeo, the uncle who always offered us chrysanthemum tea and make sure every and each of us in the group gets a packet of it and drink it up. Our group really appreciate for the drink Uncle Yeo offered. (‘’,) Despite the injury that Uncle Yeo got from the attack a few weeks ago, it still did not deter him from collecting the used drinking cans. During the visit, both Jie Li and Serena bought empty cans from their home for Uncle Yeo and from the cans collected, we learned from Uncle Yeo that there are 2 different types of cans and the types of can that can be recycled are those made of aluminum and in which are soft and can be crushed easily. Those tin cans use for the drinks such as Pineapple and Bird Nest Drinks seem to be not able to recycle. Thus, from this, we know that what matters is not just on collecting empty metal cans but should be on collecting those which can be recycled.

Through the 2 hours visit, we students managed to learn quite a bit from the elderly and it seems like there are more to learn from the upcoming visits.
